TAILOR BUILT DESIGN TRENDS FOR 2018
You may have been reading up on the hottest design trends of 2018, from this Houzz article to Benjamin Moore’s 2018 Color of the Year. Whether you’re just looking for some #designinspo or 2018 is your year to buy a brand new designer home in the Salt Lake area, we’ve got you covered. So, what do you have to look forward to as you see more Tailor Built Homes pop up around the Salt Lake Valley?
We love the white, black and gray exterior color palette that really took flight in 2017. You can definitely expect to see more of this stunning and classic look, sometimes with a bright pop of color in a red, raspberry or blue front door. Shades of tan and brown are also being incorporated in some of our exterior designs to bring more color and texture.
White interiors, found in homes with white walls and trim, or kitchens with white cabinets and backsplash, are clean and classic. However, it’s also fun to add in some color here with cabinets in navy or gray, or a colored backsplash. Another striking combination is to have white or light gray walls with dark baseboards or black doors. Keep an eye out for bold color statements that will be featured in our upcoming homes.
Natural elements like wood, metals and stone add warmth and life to a home. Too often, these elements are ignored through the building process and left entirely to the items put inside of a house. We want the architectural design elements to complement and enhance that beautiful wool rug, solid oak table, and freshly cut flowers that you will be decorating your home with.
These natural elements will continue to be featured on our homes from the outside in. Exterior cedar siding on our modern homes has become one of our trademarks, and we will certainly be continuing that in projects like 20th East and Fisher Lane in Salt Lake City. It adds warmth to the outside and so far as curb appeal, it definitely provides that “WOW” factor that you’ve been searching for. Inside our homes, you will fall in love with stained wood railings, exposed steel beams, solid surface (quartz or granite) countertops, and stone veneer fireplace surround.
A look that you will be seeing more of this year in our designer Tailor Built Homes features sand-colored laminate flooring, reconstituted veneer cabinetry with wood grain pattern, off-white quartz countertops with texture and just a hint of shine, with bright white and light blue accents to complete this “beachy” look. With natural light generously spilling in through the windows, this look mimics the relaxing beach vibe that can be so helpful in getting through the cold months.
By meticulously planning out the views, allowing plenty of natural light to shine through, and adding to the overall design of the house, the windows pull everything together, beautifully merging indoor and outdoor spaces. From the clerestory windows of the POPLIN that naturally lights the main floor to the statement fireplace wall of the KERSEY, to the modern approach of the HERRINGBONE, Tailor Built Homes will be keeping windows as a central design in our upcoming homes.
The power of carefully selected light fixtures in adding to the design of each specific space, and the overall look and design of the home, can never be underestimated. We will be adding small accents of brass in lighting fixtures, as well as adding the occasional bling chandelier in the master closet or bathroom. Expect to see lighting in all different styles, finishes, materials, and sizes. We will be breaking all rules of matchy-matchiness in all the right ways by combining different styles, materials, colors and finishes to create a textured look where there’s always something new and beautiful to look at.
